West Albany High School

We at Oregonlive would like to thank coach Randy Nyquist, the West Albany assistant coaches, the players and everyone else involved for being so co operative with us today. We will be coming to you later today from West Salem practice. We don’t have a sure time yet, but keep checking and we’ll update as soon as we have that info.

The hats have come off and the players are meeting at center field, which must mean the morning session is coming to an end.wholesale nfl jerseys The coaching staff goes over the positives and negatives they saw today, and what they can do to address them in the next round of practice, later in the day.

The team has just circled up at mid field to begin a their push up regimen, followed by a sprint around the goal post. Now on to every football players favorite exercise, ‘up downs’.

We have retreated to the car now, as the rain is pouring down here in Albany. Through the windshield wipers I can see the varsity squad working on their team offense/defense, with coach Nyquist manning the QB spot.

Wide receiver Drew Pigg just went horizontal to catch a big pass up the middle. he is expected to be one of the key components of the ‘Dogs offense this season.

Defensive coach Jim Phillips is lecturing his defense on the art containment, after giving up a big run to McHenry, one of the leagues top rushers last year.

Big tackle in the backfield by Neil Crook, who was honored as the 5a defensive player of the year last season.

While talking with Nyquist, I asked him about the QB question facing his team. With the loss of Haberly, WAHS is going to need one of their youngsters to step up and perform for them to get back to the 5a state championship game. When asked, Nyquist said, “Well I think we’re gonna go with Miller, but that isn’t set in stone.” I think the coach just want to see how practices progress over the rest of the month before making a final decision.

I just got done touching bases with coach Nyquist out here on the practice field. He seemed pretty happy to have us there, and he said he would be glad to sit down with me and talk after practice, so keep an eye out for that interview which should come after practice wraps up here.
